Historic Lankershim at Weddington: Adam-12 patrol North Hollywood in 1968

Lankershim and Weddington landmarks on 1968 Adam-12!

The cross streets of Lankershim and Weddington in North Hollywood are home to two historical buildings, both almost 100 years old. The bank dates to 1923 (or thereabouts) and El Portal Theater opened in 1926. Put it in Adam-12 terms: Malloy was born the end of 1931. They're PM = Pre-Malloy.

Sadly, the Bob's Big Boy location is now home to a giant Wells Fargo Bank. The El Portal is still in operation as a theater. The former Security Pacific National Bank is now a hipster restaurant or such called The Federal.

Here you can see historic photos:

Here's the bank circa 1923.

Normally our heroes ventured only as far north as Camarillo (the cross street, not the town!), and generally they stayed south of the 134 on Lankershim. Why go any further from Universal Studios than they had to! Yet here they were in the heart of the so-called "NoHo Arts District." Great to see these two historic buildings and the now long-gone Big Boy make an appearance on Adam-12.

According to the Valley Relics Museum, Bob's became Cugee's, and then it burned down in the wee hours of January 28th, 1981. I moved to the Valley in September of that year.

The Valley has very few hundred-year-old structures. I'd guess 90% of structures in the Valley date from after 1950. Certain sections surprise me with pockets of homes dating back to the 20s and 30s, but the Valley really grew beginning in the late 50s.
