Sgt. MacDonald gets set up by a con woman who jumps in front of the police car in "Backup 1-L20," season 4, episode 21.
Much of the action takes place on Colfax (playing the part of "Third") and Sylvan (playing the part of "Allen") in, yes, North Hollywood. First aired February 23, 1972, but shot in December 1971, and Reed looks cold in his gloves!
SRI replaced Hub Furniture.
6418 Lankershim has been a furniture store for decades, but the names keep changing.
Mostly I'm trying to "reassemble" North Hollywood+ as it was during the Adam-12 era, but I've also started throwing in actual crimes that happened in Adam-12's only-for-TV patrol district. Here's one at that furniture store (although it post-dates Adam-12):
Arson at the Draft Board!
Alas! Busy Brakes with an S. Pretend you see the S.
I cut the article; just wanted to show the church (and not the best quality pic, but...)
North Hollywood isn't going to patrol itself. Get back out there, pretty boys!
Our heroes go further north than usual, all the way to Vanowen, east of Tujunga. And Officer Woods, Fred Stromsoe, puts in a surprise appearance as a burglar!
Open 6 A.M. to 2 A.M seven days a week? In other words, you just have to brave the cold for four hours a night in the parking lot, and you could actually live there for the price of a drink every couple hours.
But what about CRIME at the Ember Room in the Adam-12 era? Hey, I can deliver:
The Scorpio Bar between the Ember Room and Biff's, not a place to bring the family:
Biff's was a restaurant chain in Los Angeles in the 60s and early 70s, named after the son of a giant man comically called "Tiny" Naylor, who had a chain of restaurants called, yes, Tiny Naylor's. I was in the one on Sunset once in 1982. Son Biff later bought Du-Pars. Almost seen here is Biff's No. 11 (they were all numbered!) that took over the Denny's (built in 1960) at 11324 Vanowen. You would have to know it was there to catch it.
18130 Sherman Way was Color Tile at that time, so the phone book hadn't yet caught up with the facts on the ground. The location is a vacant lot at the moment. Dread to think what monstrosity is coming.
Back to December 1971 with Adam-12!
Why couldn't they have taken their 7 at Vanowen Biff's and shown us more? Because Officer Woods had gone over to the dark side, and they had to catch him after he broke into the Shangri-Lodge while it sat vacant before becoming the Studio Lodge at 11254 Vanowen, east of Tujunga and still there (but surely set to Monster Box any minute, like all of the Valley).
I got so curious about the temperature that I went and checked. Normal.
Before we leave this dodgy apartment-hotel, can we get a crime story associated with it? Yes, we can! A young dude living there robbed two schools. Not as good as the guys who drilled through the roof of the Ember Room and somehow squeezed through only a 12-inch hole, but it ties in.
Got a crime that occurred when Adam-12 were supposed to be patrolling it? Sure do! 211 in progress at Ted's, handle Code 2:
This episode was an Irish actors showcase too, with Angela Greene and Walter Burke.
Starting with Angela Greene, clearer inset photo (below) found here.
You don't even need to ask. Yes, I've got a crime there from the Adam-12 era. This could become an extremely niche blog. I could focus solely on digging up crime reports from North Hollywood businesses that you catch a glimpse of when Malloy and Reed drive by. Then the purists could call me out for including Valley Village.
Not all roads lead to the Universal backlot, but Lankershim does! And here we are:
Walter Burke was taller than me. He had a Twilight Zone ("The Big Tall Wish," season 1, episode 27), Batman, and Lost in Space, among so many others.
I just liked these next three poses of our heroes. I named the files: Dads on the Set; Actor Cops; Actors are Hungry
